TIE LAYERS
PROCESS

The production of tie layers is based on an in-depth knowledge of multilayer structures and advanced extrusion technologies.

Thanks to tailor-made plants, we ensure optimal control of process conditions, guaranteeing effective adhesion between barrier layers (such as aluminum, EVOH, or PA) and polyolefin layers.

Formulations are designed to ensure transparency and high performance even in technical and aesthetic fields such as food packaging and personal care.

01.

Reactive Extrusion

For the production of tie layers, MPB employs reactive extrusion to functionalize polyolefins through the grafting of maleic anhydride (MAH) onto the polymer matrix, thus obtaining high-performance adhesives necessary to ensure the adhesion of polyolefins with different substrates such as aluminum, PA, EVOH, PET, and PS.

Thanks to extrusion lines designed to measure and meticulous control of process parameters, including the choice of base polymer, type of radical initiator, and amount of MAH, MPB has developed coupling agents with properties tailored to the specific requirements of the application sector, from technical packaging to automotive.

02.

Maleic Anhydride

Maleic anhydride is the active component that enables tie layers to create durable bonds between otherwise incompatible materials. MPB uses it to produce high-performance functionalized polymers, without neglecting optical properties and versatility of use.

Thanks to its long-standing experience in the sector, MPB ensures perfect grafting of MAH onto the polymer matrix and is able to engineer customized adhesives dedicated to the specific needs of its Clients.
