TIE LAYERS
APPLICATIONS
Our PE-, PP-, and EVA-based tie layers are designed to ensure excellent adhesion between polyolefins and materials such as EVOH, PA, and aluminum in complex barrier structures.
Used in highly demanding sectors such as food packaging, automotive, and multilayer pipes for underfloor heating systems or sanitary water distribution, our adhesives guarantee reliable performance in terms of mechanical strength, thermal stability, and processability.
Film and Sheet
MPB offers a wide range of solutions for all processing technologies:
- Traditional blown film
- Oriented films – Double bubble, triple bubble, and MDO –
- Water quench film
- Flat die (cast and sheet)
In addition to two concentrate grades for PE-based structures, there are materials dedicated to:
- Anti-fog structures
- Applications with very demanding optical properties and/or mechanical characteristics (e.g., deep thermoforming)
- PP-based grades also suitable for thermal treatments (sterilization, retort)
- EVA-based grades
- Grades dedicated to coextrusion with PET and PS
Multilayer Pipes for Radiant Systems and Water Transport
Thanks to the development of several grades dedicated to this application, MPB has significantly gained market share in this specific sector in recent years.
MPB offers solutions to all Customerss producing multilayer pipes with functional barriers in EVOH or aluminum, meeting a wide variety of production requirements that vary depending on the type of plant, its layout, and its productivity.
With MPB grades, several Customerss active in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, and North Africa have completed the homologation process required to obtain the most important certifications for their target markets: KIWA, DVGW, AENOR, QB, and many others.
Cosmetic Tubes
MPB adhesives are also used as tie layers in the production of tubes with multilayer barrier structures (with either EVOH or PA) employed in the following sectors:
- Cosmetics
- Personal care
- Food
Over the years, MPB has developed significant international experience in these applications, for which it supplies various grades, also selected according to the specific technical features of the Customerss’ production plants.
Containers and Bottles
Containers and bottles obtained through extrusion blow molding require, when a functional barrier (PA or EVOH) is needed, the use of specific tie-layers.
Among MPB’s customers are companies active in the production of containers for:
- Fertilizers
- Chemicals
- Food sector
MPB’s portfolio includes several grades that can successfully serve as adhesives for these applications.
Automotive
In the automotive sector, fuel tanks consist of a multilayer structure where the barrier function is provided by EVOH.
These containers are called PFTs (Plastic Fuel Tanks) and are manufactured from thermoformed sheets or by extrusion-blow molding.
MPB has developed a product for this sector that, based on data, demonstrates the highest adhesion strength among all products available on the market.
ACP – Aluminum Composite Panels
MPB supplies adhesives used as tie layers in the manufacturing of aluminum composite panels for interior and exterior building cladding.
Several grades have been developed for this application, which has matured and consolidated over the years.
For the same application, MPB also offers compatibilizers for the panel’s core layer, which must possess flame-retardant properties.
